“Back in my day, if you fell, you lost.”

Sharon Taylor was watching the replay of NCA when she turned to her daughter, Jessica Bugg, (below right) an Allstar insider for more than 15-years, originally from Kentucky's grass roots cheer country and currently coaching with Island Allstars in Jacksonville, Florida.

“I’m watching all these divisions and I’m seeing teams falling and winning.”

Jessica’s mom pretty much summed- up t...

This classic CheerMAD post, one of our first from the summer of 2011,  reminds us that it's not the number following the level of the team, but the number of hearts within it.

Gorgeous Senior Level 2, The Headliners of ProAthletics 2010-2011, CHEERSPORT Champs

"Please refrain from approaching an athlete if they are with their team" was a comment Tweeted by a coach from a nationally renowned gym at NCA. It could have been Th...

Rachel's first of three NCA jackets in levels  Y2, Y3 and Jr. R5 became part of NCA's "MY NCA Jacket" campaign

This will be Rachel's fifth National Cheerleaders Association Allstar competition. As a cheer mom, I've seen the highs, the lows and the "no-nos."

We actually started out with a "low."

The first year we traveled to Dallas was in 2012 when Rachel was on a Youth 2 team called the PRO Athletics Showstoppers. They had just w...

I have a secret…and it is about to become public. So excuse me if this Confessions of a Cheer Dad post is a “coming-out” of sorts.

What is my secret you ask? It’s simple: I am a large, grown, outdoors-type, man’s man who is also a quivering scaredy-cat.

Whew! I said it. I am a scared, nervous, worry-wart of a parent. Somehow, though, making this public doesn’t help my anxiety. I’ll tell you why.

On average of four days a week, my...

I can’t think of a better way to start the new year than by introducing the dad who got our attention last year with his Confessions of a Cheer Dad post,  to the tune of 70,000 plus impressions and corresponding “likes,” “loves,” “shares,” and “comments.”

Confessions (can be read in its entirety at the end of this blog) was posted in CheerMAD last month after I read it in a private national cheer Facebook group. It had been pos...

2016 was definitely the year of changes in the cheer world and with it came a multitude of new opportunities. A few extraordinary notables include great new brands like SpiritBox and Cheer and Dance Lyfe; the construction began on the new cheer facility at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World and of course the International Olympic Committee’s announcement just this month that cheerleading has been given pr...

Memphis, Tenn., November 9, 2016 – USA Cheer has announced that the LakePoint Champions Center will serve as the official training center for the 2017 U.S. National Cheer and Dance Teams. There are three U.S. National Teams, which represent the United States at international cheerleading and dance team competitions.

Located in Emerson, Ga., the LakePoint Champions Center is the largest indoor sports facility in the Southeast. I...

As I look over this week's schedule, I see it isn’t a particular busy one.

Of course there are three, two-and-a-half-hour practices to get Rachel to and from (add another half-hour commute to this time-slot) as well as the preparation that goes into it: practice sports bra, shorts and t-shirt-check; bow-check; two-hair elastics- check; cheer shoes- check; healthy snack-check; two water bottles-check. Just one item missing...

Angel Rice of Stingray Allstars caught mid "X-Out."  Rice is the Guinness World Record holder for most double-full-twists performed in one minute. She also represents Team USA for Tumbling with USA Gymnastics, which is not currently an Olympic sport. “Hopefully they put my sport in the Olympics,” said Rice. Photo provided by Rice family.

We all would agree that the cheer world is due greater respect as a spo...

Every one  knows there's no "off-season" to cheer, in fact during the non-competition months, alot of industry changes get put into motion. This wasn't even what we had planned for today, but want CheerMADs to be among the first to know about the changes, glitches, spews and spurts that the industry is going through.

As CheerMAD reported in February, Disney announced that the resort plans to build a new sports venue a...
